Ringette players to flock here for Friendship Games
Description
Article published in the Langley Advance newspaper on February 23, 1983 entitled: "Ringette players to flock here for Friendship Games." The article reports that the Aldergrove Ringette Association will host 120 girls from the four western provinces for the first Western Canada Friendship Games to be held March 11 to 13 at the Aldergrove Arena.
Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba will each send two belle division teams. Representing BC will be the Langley Power Puffs and the Aldergrove Legionettes.
BC Ringette president Keith Corney commented that "there will be no losers, only winners." Corney explained that these games do not have trophies and were designed to promote friendship, goodwill, and sportsmanship. Each athlete received a friendship medallion.
The Powder Puffs and the Legionettes are B division players where most athletes on the team are completing their first ringette season. Both of the team's coaches are also new.
The hope is that the Western Canada Friendship Games will pave the way for future games in all divisions.
