Ringette clinic preps for season
Description
Newspaper clipping from the Langley Advance, August 21, 1975 entitled: "Ringette clinic preps for season." The article includes a photograph of Trudy Cuthbert.
The article is reporting on the ringette coach and referee clinic held August 16 at the Aldergrove Arena. The clinic was sponsored by the newly formed B.C. Ringette Association, which has its headquarters in Langley.
Representatives from several municipalities were at the clinic, including Kamloops, Richmond, Burnaby, Langley, Sherwood Park, Montrose and Victoria. Some of these representatives expressed a wish to set up a similar clinic in their own regions.
The event organizers were Roy English, the head referee for Langley Ringette, and Dave Nault, head coach for Langley Ringette. The one-day event started with a game between Langley and Aldergrove and included an on-ice session with skating, drills and game techniques. There was a slide-show showing violations and penalties of the game and a question and answer period.
Trudy Cuthbert, vice-president of the B.C. Ringette Association was present, as was Don Guggisberg, president of the Langley Ringette Association.
The board of directors for the B.C. Ringette Association includes Joe Iannarelli of Victoria, Beverley Felske of Port Coquitlam, Harry Dewar of Kelowna and Bob Houghton of Richmond. The B.C. Ringette Association was formed to "introduce ringette to B.C."
The Langley Ringette Association has 300 players this season and opens at the same time as the hockey season.
