Just what is Ringette?

Description

Newspaper clipping from the Aldergrove Star newspaper entitled "Just what is Ringette?" that was published on October 17, 1973.

The article speaks to a survey sent out by the (Langley) Recreation Commission to parents and students at Langley schools. The article states that the survey did not include enough information about the game of ringette and that the Commission has been flooded with phone calls regarding the nature of the ice sport.

As a result, the Commission is visiting all of the Langley schools where they are talking to all of the girls about ringette, while passing out registration forms.

The Commission is asking the parents to co-operate by returning the forms to the schools as quickly as possible. They are also planning another public meeting involving the parents so that they can provide additional information and receive community input into the project.

The fee for the season is $10 which covers insurance and registration. The article states that no girl will be turned away, however.

The Commission is preparing have the coaches trained immediately and they have started looking into insurance.

The activity is for all school aged girls and requires the following equipment: tube skates, a helmet, a mouth guard, a pair of gloves, and warm clothing.

The article directs people to contact Eileen Carpenter and Trudy Cuthbert by phone for further information.
