In 1995, Bill was founding President of the Langley Girls Ice Hockey Association, which he started because there were few female-only hockey teams at the time. In 2009, Bill acquired the BC franchise team competing in the National Ringette League (NRL) and started the Fraser Valley Avalanche. Bill fully funded the team's travel and expenses, and the team was in operation for two seasons. Bill created and endowed the Michelle VanDale Memorial scholarship, and later the Michelle VanDale Memorial Spirit of Winter Tournament created another scholarship in Bill's name. In 2011 Bill was honoured with an award for his volunteerism as a builder in sport from Pacific Sport Fraser Valley. Bill passed away in 2012. Later that year, Bill was honoured by the Township of Langley posthumously for his work on the local sports and recreation commission. A tree is planted at Fort Langley Park in his name. The article reports that the Aldergrove Ringette Association will host 120 girls from the four western provinces for the first Western Canada Friendship Games to be held March 11 to 13 at the Aldergrove Arena. Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba will each send two belle division teams. Representing BC will be the Langley Power Puffs and the Aldergrove Legionettes. BC Ringette president Keith Corney commented that "there will be no losers, only winners." Corney explained that these games do not have trophies and were designed to promote friendship, goodwill, and sportsmanship. Each athlete received a friendship medallion. The Powder Puffs and the Legionettes are B division players where most athletes on the team are completing their first ringette season. Both of the team's coaches are also new. The hope is that the Western Canada Friendship Games will pave the way for future games in all divisions. The photo caption reads: "Provincial ringette competition involving 9 BC ringette associations included a matchup between the top BC petites North Shore Winter Club team and an Aldergrove squad. The tourny was hosted for four days at Civic Centre." The article recaps the ringette provincials hosted at the Langley Civic Centre and the Aldergrove Arena. The opening ceremonies included presentations by Langley Aldermen Alfred Nundal and Muriel Arnason, BC Ringette Association president Gordon Scott, and Langley Ringette Association's Gail Chenier. In the belle division, Aldergrove defeated Langley 8-4 to take the championship. Poco beat North Shore Winter Club in the junior belle division. In tweens, North Shore Winter Club earned the gold over Aldergrove. In the petite division, North Shore Winter Club beat Langley to win first place. During the closing ceremonies on Sunday evening, trophies and banners were awarded to the winning teams. Sportsgalship recipients received recognition.
